  6. but she hit powerful ground strokes from 
  7. the baseline that she used to beat her
  8. opponents. Sports reporters called Maureen
  9. ΓÇ£Little Mo" (At the time, one of the biggest
  10. battleships in the U.S. was named Big Mo.)

  12. During her career, Maureen won nine Grand
  13. Slam singles titles. Between September
  14. 1951and July 1954, she lost only one match.
  15. Before the 1954 U.S. National Champion-
  16. ships, she broke her leg in a horseback 
  17. riding accident. She was just 20 years 
  18. old. Maureen never  played competitive 
  19. tennis again.
