- opponents. Sports reporters called Maureen
- ΓÇ£Little Mo" (At the time, one of the biggest
- battleships in the U.S. was named Big Mo.)

- During her career, Maureen won nine Grand
- Slam singles titles. Between September
- 1951and July 1954, she lost only one match.
- Before the 1954 U.S. National Champion-
- ships, she broke her leg in a horseback
- riding accident. She was just 20 years
- old. Maureen never played competitive
- tennis again.
